FAQ

Helping Children & Families - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why are you called Mayday?

We are called Mayday as it represents the on-call, on-demand nature of the support we provide to those in need within Clover and other parts of York County. Charities and needy families typically have no reserve funds for unexpected expenses, so Mayday provides critical lifelines when such expenses arise. These can include funds for students to cover tuition costs at local colleges or to purchase clothing, school supplies, and other personal items. In addition, we are often called on when critical assets of our sponsored charities need repair or replacement (cars, HVAC, etc.).

  • How do you validate these requests to ensure that Mayday funds are being spent appropriately?

Each Mayday director is assigned as a liaison to one or more charities we support. We perform site visits and maintain frequent communication via phone or e-mail. This way, requests are typically communicated to the director assigned to that charity to validate the request quickly.

  • What are your administrative and support expenses?

Very low. We have no paid staff, and our directors are not reimbursed in any way. We incur modest expenses to support our social media presence, a PO box, and postage, but our overhead is minimal.

  • How can I support Mayday?

There are several ways. You can click HERE to donate.

We are extremely appreciative of our supporters, whose generosity is positively impacting the lives of those less fortunate within our communities. You can also offer thanks and patronage to our key sponsors. Here is a listing of our major sponsors .
